Fable
- The Fox and the Farmer’s Feast (Inspired by Proverb 12:27)
The
Fox and the Farmer’s Feast
Once
upon a time, in a quiet valley, there lived a fox known for his cleverness—but
also for his laziness. One crisp morning, he spotted a plump rabbit nibbling
near a farmer’s field. His mouth watered, but instead of catching it himself,
he thought, “Why should I work? Perhaps it will wander into my den later.”
Nearby,
a humble farmer was tending his small vegetable patch. He worked tirelessly,
day and night, planting, watering, and preparing his harvest. When the farmer
finally caught a rabbit in a trap he had carefully set, he roasted it over a
fire, savoring every bite.
The
fox, seeing this, sneered, “All that effort, for one meal!” But soon he grew
hungry, for the rabbit he had hoped for never came. Meanwhile, the farmer, who
respected his work and cherished his provisions, had enough food not only for
himself but for his family and even for neighbors who visited.
The
fox learned a bitter lesson: cleverness without diligence brings empty paws,
while steady effort brings lasting reward.
Moral:
Laziness
may seem easy, but diligence preserves and multiplies what is valuable.
Reflection
This
fable reminds us that effort and diligence matter more than cleverness or luck.
The fox was smart but lazy, expecting results without action. The farmer,
though humble, worked faithfully and reaped the rewards of his labor. In life,
blessings often come not to those who wait idly, but to those who prepare,
work, and steward well what they have. Proverbs 12:27 teaches us that our
diligence honors what we’ve been entrusted with and ensures it grows rather
than fades.
Application
In
Daily Life: Take small, consistent steps toward your goals instead of waiting
for opportunity to “fall into your lap.” Even a little effort each day
compounds into lasting results.
In
Spiritual Life: God honors those who are faithful in little things. Whether
it’s personal growth, relationships, or service, acting diligently brings
spiritual and practical rewards.
In
Work and Stewardship: Value what you have—time, talents, and resources—by
actively using them instead of letting them go to waste.
Heavenly
Father,
Thank
You for the blessings You have entrusted to me. Forgive me for the times I have
been lazy, relying on luck or convenience instead of diligence. Help me to work
faithfully, steward wisely, and cherish the gifts You have given. Give me the
discipline to act, the patience to persevere, and the joy to share the fruits
of my labor with others. May my life reflect Your wisdom and honor Your
provision.
In
Jesus’ name, Amen.
