Nothing Is New Under the Sun: Finding Eternal Hope in an Ever-Changing World (Inspired from Ecclesiastes 1)
Every
generation believes it is witnessing something completely new. New technology,
new ideas, new lifestyles, and new challenges often make us think history has
never looked like this before. Yet, thousands of years ago, Solomon observed a
profound truth: human nature remains remarkably unchanged.
Ecclesiastes
1 reminds us that while the world constantly changes on the surface, the
deepest struggles, desires, ambitions, and questions of humanity remain the
same. This realization is not meant to discourage us—it is meant to redirect
our hearts toward the One who never changes.
The
Endless Cycle of Life
Solomon
begins by describing the repetitive cycles of creation.
"Generations
come and generations go, but the earth remains forever." — Ecclesiastes

He
points to the sun rising and setting, the wind circling around, and rivers
continually flowing into the sea without ever filling it.

Chasing
Satisfaction Without God
Solomon
spent much of his life pursuing wisdom, pleasure, wealth, achievement, and
success.
Eventually
he concluded:
"Meaningless!
Meaningless!... Everything is meaningless."

point was not that life itself has no value but that life apart from God cannot
provide lasting fulfillment.

Heavenly
Father, thank You for Your unchanging nature in a world that is constantly
changing. Forgive me for the times I have searched for meaning in temporary
things instead of seeking You. Give me wisdom to recognize what truly matters
and the courage to invest my life in what has eternal value. Help me to trust
Your Word, follow Your ways, and find my satisfaction in Jesus Christ alone.
