Excitement: Finding True Joy and Anticipation in God
Excitement
is a powerful emotion. It fills our hearts with anticipation, energizes our actions,
and gives us something to look forward to. Whether we are expecting good news,
preparing for a special event, or waiting for an answered prayer, excitement
can be a wonderful gift from God.
However,
the Bible teaches that our greatest excitement should not come from temporary
pleasures or worldly achievements but from our relationship with God and His
promises. When our hope is rooted in Him, our excitement becomes lasting joy
that remains even during difficult seasons.
What Does the Bible Say About Excitement?
Biblical
excitement is often connected to joy, hope, praise, and expectation. God's
people rejoiced when they experienced His presence, witnessed His miracles, and
anticipated His blessings.
1. Be Excited About God's Presence
The
greatest source of excitement for a believer is the opportunity to draw near to
God.
Psalm
122:1
"I
was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD."
David
expressed genuine excitement about worshiping God. His heart rejoiced at the
thought of entering God's house and enjoying fellowship with Him.
2. Be Excited About God's Promises
God's
promises give believers hope and confidence for the future.
Romans
15:13
"Now
the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may
abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost."
When
we trust God's Word, we can look forward to His faithfulness with joyful
anticipation.
3. Be Excited About Serving the Lord
Serving
God should never feel like a burden. It is a privilege that fills the heart
with purpose.
Psalm
100:2
"Serve
the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing."
God
desires His people to serve Him with enthusiasm, gratitude, and joy.
4. Be Excited About the Good Things God Has
Prepared
God's
plans for His children are greater than we can imagine.
1
Corinthians 2:9
"But
as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into
the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love
him."
This
verse reminds us that God has blessings and eternal rewards beyond our present
understanding.
5. Be Excited About Christ's Return
One
of the greatest hopes of every believer is the return of Jesus Christ.
Titus
2:13
"Looking
for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our
Saviour Jesus Christ;"
The
early Christians lived with eager expectation, knowing that Jesus would one day
return.
Healthy vs. Unhealthy Excitement
Not
all excitement leads us closer to God. The Bible encourages us to examine the
source of our enthusiasm.
Healthy
excitement:
· Worshiping
God
· Serving
others
· Studying
Scripture
· Sharing
the Gospel
· Anticipating
God's promises
Unhealthy
excitement:
· Pursuing
sinful pleasures
· Seeking
worldly approval above God's approval
· Becoming
obsessed with material possessions
· Ignoring
God's will for temporary thrills
Colossians
3:2
"Set
your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
Practical Ways to Cultivate Godly Excitement
1.
Spend time daily in God's Word.
2.
Keep a journal of answered prayers.
3.
Participate actively in church and ministry.
4.
Share your faith with others.
5.
Focus on God's promises rather than your problems.
6.
Remember the hope of eternal life in Christ.
Excitement
is not merely an emotion; it can be a reflection of faith and hope. When our
hearts are centered on God, we find reasons to rejoice every day. The Lord has
given us countless promises, opportunities to serve, and the blessed hope of
eternal life. Let us cultivate a spirit of joyful anticipation as we walk with
Him.
Philippians
4:4
"Rejoice
in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice."
May
your excitement be rooted not in the temporary things of this world but in the
unchanging goodness, love, and promises of God.
Reflection
Excitement
is a natural part of life, but the Bible challenges us to consider what truly
excites us. Are we most excited about earthly achievements, possessions, and
pleasures, or do we find our greatest joy in God and His purposes? The
excitement that comes from worldly things often fades quickly, but the joy that
comes from knowing Christ endures through every season.
God
invites us to live with anticipation—not merely for what we can gain in this
life, but for His daily presence, His faithfulness, and the fulfillment of His
promises. When our hearts are focused on Him, excitement becomes an expression
of faith. We begin to look forward to opportunities to worship, serve, grow
spiritually, and share His love with others.
The
early believers lived with eager expectation because they trusted God's
promises. Their excitement was rooted in hope, not circumstances. In the same
way, believers today can face the future with confidence, knowing that God is
at work and that His plans are always good.
Application
· Examine
what currently excites you the most and ask whether it draws you closer to God.
· Spend
time each day thanking God for His promises and blessings.
· Approach
worship and prayer with a joyful and expectant heart.
· Look
for opportunities to serve others with enthusiasm and love.
· Share
your excitement about God's goodness through your words and actions.
· Remember
that your ultimate hope is found in Jesus Christ and His eternal kingdom.
Heavenly
Father,
Thank
You for being the source of true joy and lasting excitement. Forgive me when I
place my hope and enthusiasm in temporary things rather than in You. Help me to
delight in Your presence, trust in Your promises, and serve You with a willing
heart.
Fill
me with excitement for the things that matter most—growing in faith, sharing
Your love, and living according to Your will. Teach me to look forward with
confidence, knowing that You are faithful and that Your plans for me are good.
May
my life reflect the joy that comes from knowing You, and may others be
encouraged by the hope they see in me. Thank You for the gift of salvation
through Jesus Christ and for the glorious future You have prepared for all who
love You.
In
Jesus' name, Amen.
