1. Restoration and Return

Theme: God stirs the hearts of leaders and people to return and rebuild.

Ezra 1:1-5 – Cyrus’ decree fulfills prophecy; God stirs the hearts to return.

Ezra 2 – List of the exiles returning to Jerusalem and Judah.

Ezra 3:1-6 – Rebuilding the altar and resuming sacrifices.

 "Then rose up the chief of the fathers..." (Ezra 1:5)

 

2. God’s Sovereignty Over Kings and Nations

Theme: God moves even pagan kings to fulfill His will.

Ezra 1:1 – “...that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled…”

Ezra 6:22 – The Lord “turned the heart of the king of Assyria unto them…”
