Jacob Prays for Deliverance from Esau
(Gen 32:9-12)
Genesis 32:9–12
9
Jacob said, “O God of my father Abraham and God of my father Isaac, O Lord, who
said to me, ‘Return to your country and to your
relatives, and I will prosper you,’
10 I
am unworthy of all the loving kindness and of all the faithfulness which You
have shown to Your servant; for with my staff only I crossed this Jordan, and
now I have become two companies.
11 “Deliver
me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him,
that he will come and attack me and the mothers with the children.
12
“For You said, ‘I will surely prosper you and make your
descendants as the sand of the sea, which is too great to be numbered.’”
Jacob’s
prayer was answered because of God’s word and plan for him.
Genesis
25:19–23
Isaac’s
Sons
19 Now
these are the records of the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham became
the father of Isaac;
20 and
Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean
of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife.
21
Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the
Lord answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived.
22 But
the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If it is so, why
then am I this way?” So she went to inquire of the Lord.
23 The
Lord said to her,
“Two nations are in your womb;
And two peoples will be separated from your body;
And one people shall be stronger than the other;
And the older shall serve the younger.”
Genesis
26:3
3 “Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you,
for to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will
establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham.
Genesis
27:28–29
28 Now
may God give you of the dew of heaven,
And
of the fatness of the earth,
And
an abundance of grain and new wine;
29 May
peoples serve you,
And
nations bow down to you;
Be
master of your brothers,
And
may your mother’s sons bow down to you.
Cursed
be those who curse you,
And
blessed be those who bless you.”
Genesis
28:3–4
3
“May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you
may become a company of peoples.
4
“May He also give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your descendants
with you, that you may possess the land of your sojourning, which God gave to
Abraham.”
Genesis
28:13–15
13 And
behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the
Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which
you lie, I will give it to you and to your descendants.
14 “Your descendants will also be like the dust of the earth,
and you will spread out to the west and to the east and to the north and to the
south; and in you and in your descendants shall all the families of the earth
be blessed.
15 “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and
will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done
what I have promised you.”
